A client that allows users to send and receive emails in a manner similar to chatting.
Talanoa is a desktop email client that focuses on transforming email interactions into a chat format: each email is displayed as a bubble, while redundant elements such as replies, signatures, and disclaimers are automatically hidden, making the reading experience similar to browsing a chat history. Replies are also handled in the same way as sending messages. The inbox is organized based on recipients rather than email subjects.
It places the calendar and to-do list right next to the inbox, allowing any email to be instantly converted into a task on the dashboard with just one click. Meeting invitations can also be accepted without having to leave the current interface. The AI features, which are currently in the testing phase, can be used by asking questions in natural language—for example, you can ask what feedback was received recently for a particular version, and it will search through emails and attachments to identify the relevant information. It can also summarize lengthy conversations, draft responses in your usual tone, and even provide translations on the spot. The developers emphasize that the AI runs locally, without requiring emails to be downloaded to your computer, and it does not track user activities.
It is compatible with macOS, Windows, and Linux, and can be downloaded for free. It is ideal for those who are inundated with a large number of emails every day and do not appreciate the traditional email interfaces; Linux users now have another decent option available to them.
