Free and open-source local meeting recording software
Oats is a meeting recording tool developed by Ariso. Two of its features deserve special mention: recordings are taken on your own computer, and no robotic account will be added to the meeting; in addition, the audio data is not uploaded to any third-party cloud services. After the meeting, you will receive a clear summary and a task list containing the remaining items to be handled.
It is free and open-source; the code can be found on GitHub. The main platform it is designed for is macOS, while the Windows version is still in the testing phase.
The functionality has been refined to a great extent: pending tasks are collected in a dedicated “Todos” tab, and once a task is completed by checking the corresponding option in the notes, it is automatically removed from this list. In local backend mode, notes are saved in Markdown format, while pending tasks are stored using Obsidian Tasks, both within the vault of your choice. You can synchronize or transfer these files as you see fit. Meeting recordings can also be exported separately. Speech recognition is currently only available through ariso.ai’s cloud-based backend service.
This option is suitable for those who require confidentiality regarding the meeting content or simply do not want external robots to participate in the meetings. The updates are released quite frequently, with new versions appearing almost every week.
