Open-source, native macOS developer terminal workspace
Trellis is a macOS terminal application written natively in Swift. According to its creator, it is “more than just a terminal”.
The interface organizes windows based on projects: Each project in the sidebar corresponds to a separate window, and each window has its own tab. These tabs allow for unlimited division of panels, and all layout settings are restored after restarting the application. The panel title bar provides a one-click option to initiate tasks such as building, testing, or running projects; alongside this, there is also a draft area where temporary scripts can be written, and commonly used SSH hosts can be stored here as well.
The part related to AI is that it comes equipped with a command-line tool and an MCP service. Scripts and AI agents can directly use these tools to open windows in Trellis, execute commands, and read output results.
Completely free and open-sourced by MIT, it does not require any remote monitoring capabilities. It is compatible with both Apple and Intel chips and requires macOS 14 or later versions. This tool is ideal for developers who need to manage multiple projects simultaneously and are tired of having their terminal tabs in a complete mess.
