Gerty is an AI assistant that operates entirely locally on your Mac, and can be considered a private version of ChatGPT that doesn’t require an internet connection. What makes it particularly user-friendly is its automatic configuration process: after installation, it will first assess the performance of your Mac, then select from open-source models those most suitable for tasks such as chatting, writing, coding, viewing images, and drawing. These selected models will be downloaded and integrated into a single assistant without the need for you to interact with the terminal at any point during the process.

It can read your documents, emails, and calendar; you can ask questions verbally directly, and it can also perform actions within your applications. However, before making any changes, it will always show you what those changes will be. No account is required, and no data is stored in the cloud. According to the official statement, not a single word from your documents will ever leave your computer.

It requires an Apple chip and macOS 26 or later. The purchase price is 49 Swiss francs, and one license can be used to install the software on up to 3 Mac devices.
