New Instant Search

Instant is a local AI file-search tool for Mac. It can identify the content of a file and locate it precisely, even specifying the exact page and paragraph where the relevant information is found.

For example, if you search for “How can I terminate my lease in advance?”, it will find a note containing the rental agreement terms and highlight the sentence that states “You can cancel the contract by providing a written notice 60 days in advance and paying one month’s rent”. If you search for “Ideas for birthday gifts that I wrote down”, it will display the corresponding shopping list. It uses the latest vector embedding models, and the official accuracy rate claimed to be 95%.

It is completely offline; files are not stored locally on the device, and it can be used for free. It requires macOS 15 or a later version and an Apple chip. People who have many files on their computers and often cannot remember the file names but still recall the content inside those files will find this feature very useful.
