Open-source TypeScript AI proxy workflow platform
Trigger.dev is an open-source platform for running background tasks and AI agents, developed using TypeScript. It addresses the challenging issue of “long-running tasks” in AI applications: a single agent execution can take several minutes or even hours, involving the invocation of multiple models and external APIs along the way. Ordinary Serverless functions would quickly encounter timeout issues in such cases.
The tasks specified on it come with built-in features for retry, queuing, concurrent execution control, and scheduled triggering. Even if the service is redeployed halfway through the process, the status of the tasks will not be lost. It is possible to track exactly which model was called at each step, how many tokens were consumed, and where any errors occurred—all these details can be viewed in the console. Recently, a new Webhook integration has been added, allowing events from more than 50 different services such as Slack and Supabase to directly trigger the proxy. In addition, there is also a chat proxy component that can handle both refreshes and version updates without any issues.
This is ideal for full-stack and backend developers working on AI products. It allows for self-deployment, and there are also hosted cloud services available; the free tier is more than sufficient for personal projects.
